RaRe² Project: European Manufacturing Becomes Resilient and Flexible to Tackle Global Crises

Articles, News

The RaRe² – Human-centred Rapid Reconfiguration of Production and Value Chain in Fast Changing Scenarios project has the goal of revolutionizing the European manufacturing sector.

The initiative aims to create a resilient and adaptable ecosystem capable of quickly responding to market changes and unexpected crises.

In recent years, some events have highlighted the vulnerabilities of supply chains and production processes. RaRe² addresses this need by developing reconfigurable manufacturing systems that can swiftly adapt to new economic, regulatory, or climate scenarios.

At the core of RaRe² is the development of a Holistic Ecosystem Platform that fosters collaboration among European companies and organizations for the rapid reconfiguration of process chains.

RaRe²’s main strategic and operational goals include:

  • Developing innovative digital solutions to monitor and manage production reconfiguration.
  • Defining standards and methodologies to accelerate and secure adaptation to new requirements.
  • Facilitating the achievement of certifications at early stages.
  • Strengthening training and up-skilling of the workforce to support decision-makers and workers in adapting to new roles and processes.

The RaRe² platform enables a “green wave” of rapid reconfiguration:

  • It detects early warning signs of potential issues using internal and external data analyzed through Artificial Intelligence.
  • It intelligently connects physical and logical elements to quickly adapt products, processes, and supply chains.
  • It supports managers and workers in making quick, informed decisions, reducing transition times and costs.

The solutions developed by RaRe² will be tested in real industrial environments to demonstrate their effectiveness. After an initial phase in controlled laboratory settings, the technologies will be validated in four concrete scenarios:

  • Modular sterilization units.
  • Production of car body parts.
  • Manufacturing of child seats and face masks from recycled materials.
  • Prescription contact lens production.

Additionally, an EcoSystem CoCreation Demo will involve the entire value chain to showcase the benefits of the collaborative approach within the European ecosystem.

The RaRe² consortium brings together technology providers, certification and standardization experts, cybersecurity professionals, and communication partners. Through collaboration with industrial research institutions, data analysis, and Artificial Intelligence, RaRe² aims to make European manufacturing stronger, more sustainable, and more competitive, even in the face of unexpected crises.
