Flex4Res is proud to announce its participation in the AI4manufacturing community, a European network dedicated to accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in manufacturing. The collaboration marks an important step in advancing data-driven resilience, intelligent automation and digital sovereignty across Europe’s industrial landscape.

AI4manufacturing brings together EU-funded research projects, industry partners and AI experts to exchange knowledge, collaborate on common challenges and promote solutions that improve flexibility, efficiency and sustainability in complex production environments. By joining this community, Flex4Res adds its expertise in resilient manufacturing systems, data spaces and reconfiguration technologies to a growing network of innovators shaping the future of European manufacturing.

Strengthening the bridge between AI and resilient production

Flex4Res is developing an open platform that enables secure, sovereign data exchange along the manufacturing value chain. By integrating Gaia-X, International Data Spaces (IDS) and the Asset Administration Shell (AAS), the project empowers companies to adapt their production networks quickly in response to disruptions – a capability essential for resilience.

These technologies form a foundation on which AI can deliver even more value, for example through predictive resilience assessment, dynamic reconfiguration support or intelligent production planning.

“Joining the AI4manufacturing community is a great opportunity to connect with other initiatives that share our vision of a resilient, intelligent, and human-centric manufacturing industry,” said Emmanouil Bakopulos from LMS, the coordinator of Flex4Res. “By working together, we can strengthen the link between artificial intelligence and resilience, accelerating the digital transformation of Europe’s industrial ecosystem.”

A shared vision for the future

By joining AI4manufacturing, Flex4Res reinforces Europe’s ambition to build secure, flexible and future-ready industrial value chains – powered by trusted data sharing and advanced AI capabilities. The partnership strengthens ongoing efforts to transform manufacturing into an ecosystem where companies can adapt and reconfigure seamlessly, even in the face of disruption.

About Flex4Res

Flex4Res aims to provide an open platform to support production network reconfiguration for resilient manufacturing value chains. In four industrial pilot projects, the project team will test and validate the integrated solutions for the reconfiguration of different hierarchical levels from the value chain to machines and devices. The European research project was launched on 1 January 2023, runs for three years and is led by the Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems & Automation. The funding framework is provided by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) as part of the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme (grant agreement No. 101091903).
